He claims to have received semicha from Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu, late Sephardic Chief Rabbi.

And no, there is no Sephardic Chief Rabbinate in Israel, only Sephardic and Ashkenazic Chief Rabbis.

He was a major player in Conservative Judaism's Rabbinical Assembly, from which he resigned in 1987, thereafter identifying as Modern Orthodox...
